Dramatic Soprano from Sweden

Eva Rydén, dramatic soprano, born in Malmoe in southern Sweden, made an international opera debut in the summer of 2000, starring as Helmwige in Die Walküre.
She performed next to Plácido Domingo at the Bayreuther Festspiele with maestro Giuseppe Sinopoli. She had also contract as 3 Norn in Der Götterdämmerung. Great reviews followed from the German as well as the Nordic press.

Eva Rydén’s voice encompasses a warm timbre, volume and a large vocal range.
Her variety of repertoire – Opera, Lieder/Songs, Oratorios, Operettas, Sacred music and Musikal-Theatre, includes the Baroque through the Contemporary.

During her extensive European performances (Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Italy and Poland), Ms.Rydén has often pleased her audiences with opera, lieder and orchestral concerts.
Eva Rydén received her diploma with highest honors, ”mit Auszeichnung” and the Magister Artium (Mag.art) at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Mozarteum in Salzburg in 1997, where she was also the recipient of the prestigous Gianna Szel prize – ”For the best and the most beautiful voice”, further several scholarships and awards, among them; Mozarteum Major Foreign Scholarship, from The Artists Foundation (Konstnärsnämnden), Fredrika Bremer, and The Crafoord Foundation.
Her main teachers were Operasinger Karin Mang-Habashi in Malmoe and Prof. Rudolf Knoll and Prof. Horiana Branisteanu at the Mozarteum.

Eva Rydén has done Master Classes in Austria and Sweden for; Barbra Ann Martin, Madame Iris Adami- Coradetti, Thomas Hampson, Brigitte Fassbänder, Håkan Hagegård, among others.
Eva Rydén received also under many years personal criticism and high praise, as well as advice and professional suggestions and inspirations directly from her Mentor Birgit Nilsson.

Among her opera roles (during Mozarteum) are: First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Agathe (Der Freischütz), Aida, Mercedes (Carmen), Eboli (Don Carlos), Santuzza (Cavaleria rusticana), Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro), Elizetta (Il Matrimonio Segreto), Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte), Mimi (La Bohème), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Marta (Tiefland), Gertrud (Hänsel und Gretel), Arminda (La Finta Giardiniera).

In 1999 Eva Rydén represented Sweden at the Probaltica-Festival in Poland, including Gdansk Radio and Torun Radio, with the Swedish oratorio by Lars Erik Larsson ”Förklädd Gud” (”Disguised God”). Eva has also performed at the Swedish National Radio and Television.
Eva Rydén worked also this year for the Opera Company – Skånska Operan in Sweden, singing the lead role Mrs.Benneth in the new written opera ”Pride and Prejudice”. The young composer, Max Blomgren, wrote this part personaly for Eva and he conduct all the 29 preformances.

Spring and summer 2001, Ms. Rydén was active as a Producer, Stage Director as well as a Soloist. She toured frequently performing staged medleys from Operas, Operettas and Musical-Theatre – “From Opera to Musical-Theatre”. She has received favorable reviews from the Swedish and Danish press. One of these Concerts was visited by Birgit Nilsson – who praised the Concert very highly. She sang also as Contra Alto soloists in Beethoven´s C Mass with great reviews.
Another Oratorio she often sung as Alto soloist and still often sings – Pergolesi´s Stabat Mater.

Eva Rydén frequently performs Opera, Operetta, Lieder/Songs and Church Concerts and singing Oratorios in Sweden and abroad.
In the winter of 2003 Ms.Rydén sang the lead Role Princess Zade in a newly written Vaudeville Opera by Gunhild Carling at the City Theater in Lund (Sweden), a Turandot type with similar story. She was also the recipients of the “TSO -Torsten Tegstam Award 2003”.

2004-2005 Ms. Rydén sang romance-concerts, Swedish music with Trelleborgs brass-orchestra, and many staged Opera and Operetta concerts with scenes from Wagner and Verdi Operas and My Fair Lady, Lustige Witwe, Giuditta, Clivia, Die Czardasfürstinn, Das Land des Lächelns, Wiener Blut, The King and I, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Sound of Music.

She did also a large Wagner-Concert in Malmö (Sweden), with great success, including arias from Tannhäuser, Wesendonklieder and her first Isoldes Liebestod.

She sang once more in Die Walküre in Denmark at The New Opera, this time as Ortlinde, (cover for Brünnhilde) with Troels Kold as stagedirector.
2006 and 2007 Ms. Rydén sang many concerts around among opera arias at the Theatre Mancinelli in Italy. From Baroque music as Cantate by Vincent Lübeck to “Opera-improvisation” which included percussion instruments and playing on glass with the famous group Conrytmo.

2008 and 2009 Ms. Rydén sang among others Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro in a tour with the Opera Company – Skånska Operan (Sweden) and sang her first John Rutters Requiem for name a few.

In 2010 have Eva among others made amazing success with a solid Memorial Concert for her Mentor Birgit Nilsson in her new opened Museum. Furthermore, she sang also with great success Wagner and Verdi in Umeå Concert Hall (Sweden) with the Umeå Orchestra – Isolde Liebestod, arias from La Forza del Destino, Tosca, Tannhäuser.

2011 and 2012 Eva sang again many concerts around among as Contra Alto (!) in Vivaldi’s Gloria,
She made also her debut as Tosca with outstanding success in a tour around Sweden.

In 2013 she was soloist in Freiburg Concert Hall together with ORSO Symphony Orchestra in a large Wagner and Verdi Gala with Scenes from Tristan und Isolde, Götterdämmerung, Tannhäuser, La Forza del Destino. Many other Concerts not the least in Oratorio like Requiem from Brahms, Verdi, Mozart, Fauré and Rutter.

In 2014 she sang among others as Soloist in Piteå Festival (Wagner and Nordic Songs), Proms Concert with all the English traditional repertoire. Eva was again required soloist in Freiburg Concert Hall together with ORSO Symphony Orchestra, this time with Strauss Vier letzte Lieder.
Wagner and Verdi Gala from 2013 was live released in the fall on double CD.

In 2015 she was again among others returned to Freiburg Concert Hall, this time in the great work of Vaughan Williams A Sea Symphony. This work was also done in Offenburg and recorded live and released on CD and DVD in 2016.

In 2016 and 2017 she has done various concerts, not last operetta concerts and among many a larger Wagner Concert “Wagner goes to Church” in Sweden with extracts from Tannhäuser, Brünnhildes scenes from Die Walküre, Siegfried, Götterdämmerung and Tristan und Isolde. Which also was recorded live.

In 2018, Eva sang among serveral concerts, especially tribute concerts to Birgit Nilsson, who would have turned 100 years old in May 2018.

In 2019, Eva sang several different concerts, among other things, resume “Wagner goes to Church” again.

In 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 she will sing different concerts around, among others  “Songs in Love” Concerts.
